There is nothing quite like the exhilaration of flying a sailplane into a strong thermal and circling up to the clouds. You have the freedom to soar with the eagles, your sailplane’s long and slender wings silently moving through the skies.

Our goal is to see that you receive the highest level of flight instruction available in our area.  The instructors at Piedmont Soaring Society are all volunteers.  We charge nothing for our time or knowledge.  Our instructors are professional Commercial pilots with many years of flying as well as instructing experience.  We love aviation and want to share it with you!

Never hesitate to ask any Certificated Fight Instructor to help or answer a question.   We all share a common goal, SAFETY!

There are numerous books available if you are serious about learning to fly and soar.  Our training syllabus was written by Tom Knauff of Knauff & Grove Soaring, Julian, PA.  Our manual, Glider Flight Instructor Manual has a study text that is associated with our lesson plans "GLIDER BASICS FROM FIRST FLIGHT to SOLO.  this book is available from Knauff & Grove or Amazon.  We recommend obtaining a copy of this book.  If you are transitioning and already have a Private Pilot license we recommend TRANSITION TO GLIDERS - A Flight Training Handbook for Power Pilots.  This book is available from the Soaring Society of America.
