Piedmont Soaring Society was founded and organized in October 1999 under an old live oak tree located on the Bahnson Farm in Farmington North Carolina. The field today is officially known on the aeronautical charts as 43NC. Starting with 5 members we have now grown to over 40 members .
PSS is a club incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to provide a location for members to enjoy the sport of soaring. As a club we provide to our members several benefits including flight equipment, tows and instruction. In addition we provide introductory flights for those persons interested in joining our club. All introductory flights are conducted by an FAA licensed Commercial pilot with Flight Instructor rating.
Visiting soaring pilots are welcome and services are available to launch their own ships or use club ships after a required field check, club operation review and daily membership application.
Our Club always welcomes visitors, so come have a look round the facilities and watch the flying before you take your first flight. You may want to email or telephone first to check if flying is taking place. Take a look at the club
